Subject: Immediate Release of 60% Central Government’s share of the increased remuneration of the Anganwadi Mini Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi helpers
Your government had announced the much awaited increase in the monthly remuneration of the Anganwadi Workers, Mini Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers on 11 September 2018. Please recall that the Prime Minister of India while announcing the raise in the remuneration Rs. 1500, 1250 and 750 respectively to the Anganwadi Workers, Mini Anganwadi Workers and Anganwadi Helpers in a video conference with the anganwadi workers from various states assured that the increase will be with effect from 1st October 2018 and this “gift” will reach the anganwadi employees before Diwali (7 November 2018).
But it is unfortunate that in most states the anganwadi employees are yet to receive the increased remuneration. As you are aware, the payment of remuneration is made in a ratio of 60:40 for cost sharing between the central and state government. It is reported by our state units that when they are taking up this issue with their respective WCD Ministers and Finance Ministers, the reason behind the delay is cited as the non receipt of the 60% share of the amount from the Central government. In many states including Maharashtra, the state Ministers assured the payment as soon as the state receives the central share.
Please note that there is discontent among the anganwadi workers and helpers that the “Diwali gift” announced by the PM has not yet reached them even when Makar Sankrani/ Pongal festivals are over. So, we request you to intervene immediately to ensure that the central share of the increased allocation is released immediately to all states so that AWWs, Mini AWWs and AWHs will be able to get the raise which is given to them after a gap of more than 7 years, as the last raise was given by the Centre in 2011.
With greetings, Yours sincerely
A R Sindhu
