State level Joint Rally of anganwadi employees in Mumbai

Thousands of anganwadi employees participated in the joint rally held in Azad maidan in Mumbai on 12th October under the banner of Maharashtra Rajya Anganwadi Karmachari Kriti Samiti, of which Anganwadi Karmachari Sangathana affiliated to CITU is also an important constituent. The anganwadi employees were voicing their long pending demand of pension in addition to immediate payment of enhanced remuneration, change of supplementary nutrition etc. A delegation comprising RC Dahiwade, president and Shubha Shamim, general secretary of Anganwadi Karmachari Sangathana, and several other trade union leaders met the Women and Child Development Minister and submitted their demands.

The government agreed to pay a consolidated amount of Rs 1 lakh for anganwadi workers with 20 years service and Rs 5000 for every additional year, at the time of their retirement; the amount will be Rs 75000 and Rs 3750 for helpers; it also agreed to continue the payment of Rs 1000 as Diwali bonus this year too. The Kriti Samiti warned of intensifying the struggle by holding a massive rally in Nagpur during the winter session of the assembly and going on an indefinite strike in January 2012 if the government failed to implement the agreement.
