Himachal Pradesh Anganwadi Strike

The Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union, HP organized a strike on 2 June 2010 in  Himachal Pradesh. Almost 11 districts from 12 districts participated in the strike. All the centres were closed in 11 districts and project and district level demonstrations were held. Anganwadi workers blocked the roads and gave a memorandum to the PM by local administration. Their main demands were: Regularization, Increase in honorarium, social security, 90% reservation in supervisor quota etc.

The state government has increased the daily wages from Rs. 75/- to Rs. 110/-. But the government is not serious about anganwadi workers and helpers, who are grass-root functionaries of ICDS Scheme. Neither the Centre nor state governments are ready to provide any social security, including pension, gratuity, or increment in honorarium of the anganwadi workers and helpers.

The anganwadi leaders and CITU leaders addressed the gathering at project and districts level rallies.
